Preferred® Black Thermoplastic Splinting Material

North Coast Preferred® Black Thermoplastic splinting material delivers the same trusted performance clinicians rely on, now in a sleek, new finish. Designed for both novice and experienced splinters, this versatile material offers balanced handling, reliable rigidity, and excellent contouring for a wide range of splinting applications.

Key Material Characteristics

Controlled Resistance to Stretch
Offers minimum to moderate resistance to stretch, allowing precise shaping with gentle handling. Best results are achieved using smooth, controlled motions while forming splints in a gravity-assisted, horizontal position.

Balanced Drape
Provides moderate drape with light to moderate pressure. Contours form quickly, making it easy to achieve accurate anatomical shaping without excessive manipulation.

Low to Moderate Memory
Maintains shape well while cooling and allows for multiple adjustments without material thinning. Requires less handling, helping preserve clean contours and structural integrity.

Functional Rigidity
Finished splints deliver moderate rigidity. Circumferential splints remain flexible enough for comfortable donning and doffing, while still offering the strength needed for effective immobilization.

Reliable Bonding Performance
The environmentally friendly EF coating creates a slightly tacky surface that helps keep the material in place during molding.

  • Wet bonding holds firmly but can be separated once cooled
  • Dry heat bonding produces a strong, secure bond
  • For permanent bonds, lightly scratch off the coating, apply dry heat, and press surfaces together firmly
Instruction guidelines are included. Solvents are not recommended.

Clean, Professional Surface Finish
Resists fingerprints and visible staining, with smooth, self-sealing cut edges that remain sealed even after reheating. The black finish provides a polished, clinical appearance.
